Rumors Of The End Of The World
Canadian writer Margaret Atwood once noted that “the Colonies” (i.e. former British posessions) were not places where great literature was supposed to happen. That myopic view is well and truly demolished by tonight’s guest: Australian writer Chris Womersley.
Chris’s fiction has appeared in Granta, and his second novel Bereft has just been published in the UK by Quercus. Garnering massive praise, it won the Australian Book Industry Award for Literary Fiction, and was short-listed for the Miles Franklin Literary Award, The Age Book of the Year and the Australian Society of Literature Gold Medal. Chris’s first book, The Low Road, won the 2008 Ned Kelly Award for Best First Fiction for his novel.
We love introducing our listeners to brilliant new talent, and Chris is certainly that – a name to watch in years to come.
Presented by Peter Cox with Dave Bartram without the awesome Ali in the chat room – she’ll be back next week.

We couldn’t do it without you, and that’s the truth. You really do keep us on the air.
If you value truly independent broadcasting – not beholden to special interest groups, the curse of political correctness or some nefarious media baron – then please support us now.
Here are our goals…
Goal #1: We Go Weekly!
We’d love to be with you more often than once a month. But every show needs a lot of time to prepare… Our first goal is to produce a top-quality show every week – please help us get there!
Goal #2: We Go Video!
Wouldn’t it be nice to see our guests? Video will add a new dimension to what we do (and yes, we’ll always have top-quality audio available, too).
Goal #3: We Go On The Road!
Help LAD get off our tushies and produce some of the best location shows you’ve ever heard. We can do it – with your help!
You can cancel at any time (but we hope you won’t!). And thank you – your kind patronage truly makes all the difference.
