Piggers With Attitude
It’s a crime-free show tonight (Magenta Delicious will be back next week!) with three of the most interesting and thought-provoking guests on the planet. Professor Russell Potter is here to tell us about his new cross-species collaboration Pyg: The Memoirs of a Learned Pig (Canongate) – an extraordinary simulacrum of a late eighteenth century picaresque novel, based around the true story of Toby the Sapient Pig. Toby’s friends included Samuel Johnson, Anna Seward, William Blake and Robert Burns – and after tonight’s show, you’ll probably be one, too!
Patrice Aggs is one of the most talented illustrators working in British publishing. She has illustrated more than 50 children’s books, worked in pre-computer animation (including “the Snowman”) and produced etchings and watercolours now in collections in Europe, The USA and Japan. Her lifelong passion is comics, particularly American newspaper strips.
Patrice and John Aggs (her son) have just collaborated to produce The Boss (David Fickling Books), part of the growing DFC Library that showcases top comic book writing and illustrating talent. John started out in webcomics, and won the Grand Prize in the TokyoPop Rising Stars of Manga awards for his story “Knives”. He’s also drawn John Blake, written by Philip Pullman. And John and Patrice’s forthcoming project is The Phoenix Comic.
It’s a classic Litopia After Dark show – entertaining, enlightening and excessive in every way!
With the indefatigable Ali in the chat room, Dave Bartram and Peter Cox.
