Let Me Sell You A Tail
Some writers use verbs, nouns and adjectives; others use notes, staves and key signatures. Tonight, our special guest is Matthew Slater, film and television composer and much else besides. Matthew’s insights into the similarities between word-writing and music composing are engrossing; the two crafts are far closer than many might have supposed.
Science writer and all-round polymath Brian Clegg is our other special guest; his latest book Armageddon Science: The Science of Mass Destruction is published by St Martin’s Press at the end of this month. Brian tonight takes a hard look at the much-vaunted “long tail” – can it still offer something to authors, and if so, how do we go about using it profitably?
We continue in cognitive mood as Dave Bartram develops his theory first posited last week about the psychology of reading; and leading lawyer Donna Ballman flags up literary agents’ increasing interest in self-published manuscripts.
Peter is still a bit tired and very emotional about last night’s big win; indulge him, please!
Remember to catch this Sunday’s OPEN HOUSE – it’s your show, open for you to call in and chat to Peter – full details here.
