200th Show Special – Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk with Ben Fountain
Once every generation or two, a book comes along that incarnates our collective experience of war. Remarque’s All Quiet on the Western Front was one such: Heller’s Catch-22 was another, and Vonnegut’s Slaughterhouse-Five was one more. To this distinguished list must be added Ben Fountain‘s first novel, Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk.
Reviews have been stellar: using superlatives rarely found in the literary pages. Ben Fountain has been hailed a genius, by no less a sage than Malcom Gladwell, who devoted a major article in the New Yorker to Ben’s relatively late blooming.
We’re delighted to host Ben Fountain for this, the two hundredth episode of Litopia After Dark. It’s a special show – we hope you enjoy it.
Presented by Peter Cox with Dave Bartram and featuring the preternaturally-young Ali Gardiner in the chat room.

We couldn’t do it without you, and that’s the truth. You really do keep us on the air.
If you value truly independent broadcasting – not beholden to special interest groups, the curse of political correctness or some nefarious media baron – then please support us now.
Here are our goals…
Goal #1: We Go Weekly!
We’d love to be with you more often than once a month. But every show needs a lot of time to prepare… Our first goal is to produce a top-quality show every week – please help us get there!
Goal #2: We Go Video!
Wouldn’t it be nice to see our guests? Video will add a new dimension to what we do (and yes, we’ll always have top-quality audio available, too).
Goal #3: We Go On The Road!
Help LAD get off our tushies and produce some of the best location shows you’ve ever heard. We can do it – with your help!
You can cancel at any time (but we hope you won’t!). And thank you – your kind patronage truly makes all the difference.
