Of Surgery, Snowstorms, and the Wolf Moon
CarolRose
The Wolf Moon. Too bad we can't see it tonight. We're having a rare, true snowstorm here in Middle Tennessee, USA. Nashville has four inches and it's still falling. Murfreesboro has at least that much, and it's still falling here as well. Earlier this evening we were treated to ice pellets hitting the north windows of the house. This has been going on since 9:00 AM, and it's nearly twelve hours later as I write this. Very rare for this area, indeed. I can't say I'm upset by it though. I'm from Northern Ohio where it snows quite frequently most winters, and I've actually missed it, since we moved here nearly four years ago.
The only scary part of today was driving home from downtown Nashville this morning with my husband, who had surgery on his ankle. The snow had just started about an hour earlier, and I believe everyone who works downtown must have left at the same time ... about seven hours earlier than usual. People tend to freak out a bit when it snows here. The freeways were like parking lots for a while, and although I'm not afraid to drive on snow or ice, I was afraid for him. He needed to get home and rest, and elevate his leg. It took us nearly an hour longer to get home than it usually would, and the roads were slick, but overall it wasn't terrible. TDOT (Tennessee Department of Transportation) did a bang-up job of salting the roads. I'm impressed. And grateful.
Our daughter is 90 miles away at school, and her university closed classes today. They have more snow than we do, and more is on the way. She's outside right now, sledding with her friends. I envy her! I used to do that at Kent State University, and in fact I still have one of the very cool (and very rare) old cafeteria trays. Gold, with the KSU blue logo baked right into the surface. "Traying" was a winter event of Olympic proportions on that campus. I'm glad Nicole can share that now that she's in school, although I do wish she'd picked something other than one of her plastic storage bins to use as a tray ...
I hope some of you were able to experience the Wolf Moon. I'm sure it was beautiful. The snow that has blanketed the city in which I live is also beautiful, as are the memories of this unique day. Thank you for letting me share them with you.

Litopia is the winner
I know what you mean
Where I live, we rarely have snow, and its advent brings much madness in its wake, from terrible traffic to panic buying in supermarkets. Amazing. One teatime, I was trying to get my son home from school in the car, and traffic was literally pouring into the artery roads from the side streets as everyone ducked out of work. And it wasn't even snowing hard! The wolf moon sounds beautiful, though, and I wish I could see one.
Ah, the novelty of snow...
Most of my friends and family live in the south, and they're all abuzz about the snow falling down there. Schools and businesses are shut down, and they're all giddy. :-) Having lived up north for almost three years now, I'm pretty much used to it, so it was kind of fun to experience their excitement vicariously. "Traying" sounds like a blast!
And the Wolf Moon is beautiful here tonight.
